Christian School Suspends Girl For Selling What They Believed Were Sex Toys

Between silly putty, whoopie cushions, and this weird stuff that turns bath water into Jell-O, there’s no telling what toy companies will think up next. Sometimes, children’s toys are so strange, even adults can’t figure out what purpose they serve… and that can put some people in hot water.

That’s exactly what happened to one poor 12-year-old girl at Trinity Lutheran School in Wisconsin when she tried to sell toys that were designed to act as stress-relievers for her fellow students.

Unfortunately, her principal wasn’t familiar with the toy in question… and once he realized what she was selling, he immediately suspended her.

At Trinity Lutheran School in Racine, Wisconsin, 12-year-old student Frances Habeck was suspended for three days—but not because of misconduct. See, Frances was selling toys called “water wigglies,” which are designed to help relieve stress. They seem innocent enough, right?

Water wigglies are especially helpful to kids with autism. Frances asked her homeroom teacher if she could try selling them to other students, and her request was approved. Frances was excited to make extra money while providing her peers with a fun way to ease their anxiety.

All seemed fine until a week later, when Frances was abruptly pulled from her basketball game by her principal, who scolded—and promptly suspended—her for selling sex toys. “It was really, really loud and a lot of people could hear it. People were staring at me… I started crying,” Frances said in an interview.

Her father, Milt Halbeck, was outraged. “In your wildest imaginations, no adult could possibly view this as a sex toy,” he said. “This is a water-filled bag.”

The issue was then brought to the school board, which quickly sided with the principal. Unfortunately, Trinity Lutheran’s pastor, David Gehne, declined to comment. “We wouldn’t discuss the details of any situation regarding one of our children—they’re all minors,” he said.

Frances was understandably upset, but not just because of the suspension. “I just learned something I shouldn’t have,” she said, adding that the toy “just calms you when you touch it. You squeeze it, it’s cold and it’s hard to hold sometimes.”

But Frances’ father wasn’t going to take the school board’s decision lying down. “The spirituality of that place is busted. Something’s got to change there, and we’re powerless to do it.” Milt said that he wouldn’t stop fighting the decision until his daughter’s record was clean.

An Amazon product description for water wigglies claims that they’re “great stress relievers because they’re fun to fidget with. You can play with a water wiggly during a break or anytime you need some stress relief.” Watch Frances’ interview below; do you think the school was wrong for suspending her over something so harmless?

Clearly, water wigglies are not sex toys, though it’s easy to see how anyone unfamiliar with the product could suspect it as something nefarious at first glance. Still, it sounds like the principal and school board could use a lesson in sexual education!

  • This was the best decision on sending my son to a school, childcare, and lessons of Christianity to continue his growth as an individual. All staff members care for my son as if he was their own, which is a piece of mind for a working mom. The biggest pro is the flexibility of the childcare - pricing, payment and days attending. We look forward to having our newborn attending in a few short years! Thank you Trinity!

  • This an excellent church and school. We send our 3 children to the daycare, early childhood, and school. The teachers and staff love what they do and this shows in their enthusiasm, caring, dedication, and effort they put into their careers. There are also a lot of family fun activities and educational opportunities that can be participated in on a regular basis. The church and school make us feel a part of the family.

  • Trinity has become an important part of our family over the past 7 years - from childcare to school to after school care. Teachers and staff are amazing, loving our three children as their own. Trinity offers a caring childcare that allows little ones to explore God's nature over it's 40 acre property and a wonderful school environment where children are challenged academically and can grow in God's word at the same time.
